Green Power: Photovoltaic Energy Production

The table below on the right provides a link to each town's web page ("about") and the annual photovoltaic energy production by town. The number of photovoltaic sites has been growing dramatically and is expected to exceed two hundred and fifty sites in 2008. The data is based on information from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) collected in support of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). RECs are tradable environmental commodities in the United States and represent proof that a specified amount of electricity was generated from an eligible renewable energy resource. Photovoltaic energy producers that do not participate in the RECs program are not represented in the data.

  • Click on the markers on the map or the first column of the table in the row for the town to see graphs of the production history (in kWh) the growing number of PV sites in each town.  The total usage for the town is also shown (Cape & Vineyard data courtesy of NStar, Nantucket data courtesy of National Grid).
  • Click on the marker to see the totals for the Cape, Martha's Vineyard, and the entire region.
  • Click the name of the town in the table to see solar renewable energy items of interest for that town.
  • Click here to re-center the map.

This website is being developed through the Cape & Islands Renewable Energy Collaborative (CIRenew). Its framework was created under a community planning grant award from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC). The Clearinghouse provides a central location for the collection, classification, and distribution of data, information, and tools addressing energy supply and use in the Cape & Islands region, both now and in the future.
